Encore Wire is a U.S. manufacturer of copper and aluminium electrical wire and cable, supplying the residential, commercial, industrial and infrastructure markets. Founded in 1989 by Vincent A. Rego and Donald M. Spurgin, the company produces more than $1 billion of wire a year from a single integrated campus in McKinney, Texas, covering 3.5 million square feet. Production and quality control sit side by side on that site, and the products are designed to meet or exceed UL, ASTM and ICEA standards.
Operations run across several technical domains: copper and aluminium wire production, materials testing, quality-control technology and packaging systems engineering. The company's in-house testing facility, TechLab, sits within its innovation portfolio. Its packaging systems - Reel Payoff, PullPro, Cyclone Barrel Pack and MC Barrel Pack - are designed to improve safety, productivity and material efficiency on customer job sites.
End markets range from healthcare facilities, data centres, power generation, transit and oil and gas to clean-energy sectors including solar, wind, battery storage and electric vehicles, as well as utility transmission. Work at the McKinney campus is structured around large-scale manufacturing, testing and quality-assurance processes, with documented standards and an emphasis on job-site safety and productivity.
Following an acquisition by Prysmian in 2024, Encore Wire operates as part of that group, combining its U.S. building-wire expertise with Prysmian's global reach.
