In 1875, the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis established a healing ministry that would evolve into Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS), a Catholic health care organization serving communities throughout Illinois and Wisconsin. What began as a calling to serve the sick and injured has grown into a comprehensive network of 13 hospitals, numerous community-based health centers and clinics, and over 1,000 physician partners. With more than 10,000 colleagues bringing their mission to life daily, HSHS remains committed to revealing and embodying Christ's healing love through high-quality, patient-centered care rooted in Franciscan values.
Today, HSHS continues its 150-year legacy by adapting to the changing needs of modern health care while staying true to its founding principles. The system's care integration strategy ensures seamless access to health and wellness programs, primary and specialty care, and acute and post-acute services for hundreds of thousands of residents across two states. By leveraging advanced technology and emphasizing relationships built on respect, care, competence, and joy, HSHS strives to deliver excellence in every encounter with patients, families, and colleagues while honoring the teachings of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi.
