Intrepid Potash, Inc. is the only domestic producer of muriate of potash (potassium chloride) in the United States. Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Denver, Colorado, the company supplies essential minerals used in American agriculture, animal feed and industrial applications. In 2024 it accounted for approximately 3.5% of total U.S. potassium consumption.
The company operates three mines, in Carlsbad, New Mexico and in Moab and Wendover, Utah, and works across the western United States. Its technical operations centre on solar solution mining and the extraction of potash through natural evaporation, followed by mineral processing and the production of specialty fertilisers.
Intrepid Potash's product line includes muriate of potash as its primary output, along with Trio, a sulfate of potash magnesia supplying potassium, magnesium and sulfur. It also produces magnesium, sulfur and salt products for agriculture, animal feed and industrial use, including traditional and OMRI-listed organic products for certified organic farming.
The company describes its extraction methods as relying on solar evaporation and natural processes, and positions its output as part of the domestic food-production supply chain.
