MP Materials is an American rare earth producer founded in 2017 and the country's only fully integrated operator across the rare earth supply chain, spanning mining, mineral processing, rare earth oxide production, advanced metallization and neodymium magnet manufacturing. The company employs more than 1,000 people and has invested more than $1 billion in infrastructure since its founding. Its stated mission is to restore the full rare earth supply chain to the United States and strengthen national security, with an emphasis on reindustrialising America's manufacturing base and on materials provenance, transparency and traceability in a largely opaque global market.
Operations centre on two sites. The Mountain Pass mine in California is one of the world's richest rare earth deposits and the largest source of rare-earth minerals in the Western Hemisphere; the company reported record production of over 42,400 metric tonnes of contained rare earth oxides. The Independence facility in Texas produces neodymium magnets used in electric vehicles, robotics, defence systems and renewable energy infrastructure. Strategic partnerships include Apple and the U.S. Department of Defense.
Technical work spans rare earth mining, mineral processing, oxide production, advanced metallization, magnet manufacturing and supply chain traceability. The company describes its culture in terms of operational precision, scale and efficiency, and is scaling production to meet rising demand, with a workforce that is growing.
