Job Description
Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Director of Campus Safety. The Director of Campus Safety provides institutional stewardship and coordination for campus safety, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance across a multi-campus environment. This role does not oversee police operations but serves as the University’s primary liaison and coordinating partner with University Police Department (UPD), NSHE Risk Management, University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Fire and Life Safety, and external agencies to support a safe and compliant campus environment.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Advocate for Campus Safety Preparedness: Champions campus safety preparedness by promoting a culture of readiness, awareness, and shared responsibility; elevating preparedness needs to campus leadership; and supporting proactive planning, training, and continuous improvement across the university.
- Coordinate Campus Safety Efforts: Serves as Nevada State’s primary coordinating liaison with UPD, NSHE Risk Management, UNLV Fire and Life Safety, and other internal and external partners. This role does not include law enforcement command, operational response, or investigative responsibilities. Serves as Chair of the Nevada State University Safety Committee.
- Interdepartmental Safety Coordination: Coordinates with Campus Infrastructure, Facilities, Housing, Events, and other departments to support a safe and functional campus environment, including collaboration on safety planning, hazard identification, emergency preparedness, and mitigation of physical and environmental risks.
- Policy Development: Recommends and develops internal safety policies and procedures for Nevada State University campuses.
- Emergency Management: Works collaboratively with UPD and campus partners to support the development, maintenance, testing, and continuous improvement of emergency plans and preparedness activities. Serves as a member of Nevada State’s Incident Management Team.
- Clery Compliance: Leads select aspects of Nevada State’s compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act including chairing the Campus Clery Committee, coordinating CSA training, supporting required emergency response and evacuation testing, and participating in related records retention.
- Resource Allocation: Recommends budgets and resources for safety programs and initiatives.
- Staff Supervision: Supervises and evaluates the performance of Nevada State University Campus Safety support staff, including a Campus Safety Coordinator.
- Training and Development: Develops, implements, and schedules training programs for university employees and students.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Collects, analyzes, and prepares reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Compliance: Ensures compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible roles in campus safety administration, emergency management, or regulatory compliance in a higher education environment.
- 3-5 years of leadership and/or management experience.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate with law enforcement agencies or campus police departments.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and understanding of the Jeanne Clery Act and other federal and state laws with an direct impact on the work of the department.
- Experience chairing committees or leading cross-functional working groups.
- Possession of a valid driver license.
- Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

Salary & Benefits
Budgeted salary for this position is $86,445. Nevada State University offers excellent benefits, including 19.25% retirement match, 24 annual leave days, beginning balance of 30 sick leave days, 12 paid holidays, educational benefits, and three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts.
