The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD), founded in 1972, is a public utility responsible for wastewater and stormwater management across the Greater Cleveland area. The district operates three major treatment facilities - Easterly, Southerly, and Westerly - situated on Lake Erie, the Cuyahoga River, and Rocky River respectively. Its service area spans Cuyahoga County and portions of Summit and Lorain counties, covering 59 suburban communities and the City of Cleveland.
Key technical areas of operation include wastewater treatment, stormwater management, Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) control, industrial pre-treatment programs, and broader environmental services. A central long-term initiative, Project Clean Lake, aims to reduce combined sewer overflows and protect the water quality of Lake Erie.
The district employs more than 580 people and operates with a focus on public health, environmental stewardship, and regional infrastructure management. As a public utility district, NEORSD's mission centers on maintaining clean water systems for Northeast Ohio.
