JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Job Title: Commencement Security Officer (Temp / Seasonal)
Location: Harvard University (Cambridge, MA) – No Parking
Pay: $25.36/hour
Mandatory Shifts:
Wednesday, May 27th (11am-4pm)
Thursday, May 28th (5:30am-3pm)
Additional details / hours will be available throughout the month of May
Position Summary
The Commencement Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly environment during commencement ceremonies and related events. This role involves crowd management, access control, and providing assistance to graduates, guests, staff, and visitors to ensure a positive and safe experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor entrances, exits, and designated areas to ensure authorized access only
- Assist with crowd control and manage foot traffic during high-attendance periods
- Enforce event rules, policies, and safety procedures
- Respond promptly and professionally to incidents, disturbances, or emergencies
- Provide directions and general assistance to guests and participants
- Communicate effectively with event staff, supervisors, and emergency personnel
- Observe and report suspicious activity or safety concerns
- Maintain a visible security presence throughout the event
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Prior security, event staff, or customer service experience preferred
- Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Must be punctual, reliable, and attentive to detail
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift or move light equipment if needed
Schedule and Work Conditions
- Temporary/seasonal position
- May include long shifts depending on event schedule
