Commencement Security Officer (Harvard University) - $25.36/hour

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Job Title: Commencement Security Officer (Temp / Seasonal)

Location: Harvard University (Cambridge, MA) – No Parking

Pay: $25.36/hour 

Mandatory Shifts: 

1. Wednesday, May 27^th (11am-4pm)

2. Thursday, May 28^th (5:30am-3pm)

3. Additional details / hours will be available throughout the month of May 

Position Summary

The Commencement Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly environment during commencement ceremonies and related events. This role involves crowd management, access control, and providing assistance to graduates, guests, staff, and visitors to ensure a positive and safe experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor entrances, exits, and designated areas to ensure authorized access only
• Assist with crowd control and manage foot traffic during high-attendance periods
• Enforce event rules, policies, and safety procedures
• Respond promptly and professionally to incidents, disturbances, or emergencies
• Provide directions and general assistance to guests and participants
• Communicate effectively with event staff, supervisors, and emergency personnel
• Observe and report suspicious activity or safety concerns
• Maintain a visible security presence throughout the event

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Prior security, event staff, or customer service experience preferred
• Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
• Must be punctual, reliable, and attentive to detail

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to lift or move light equipment if needed

Schedule and Work Conditions

• Temporary/seasonal position
• May include long shifts depending on event schedule
