South Texas College is a public community college established in 1993 serving the Rio Grande Valley region across Hidalgo and Starr counties. The institution operates five physical campuses, two higher education centers, and a virtual campus, enrolling approximately 26,000 credit students. The college employs more than 2,200 faculty and staff members.
The college offers more than 130 degree and certificate options across associate and baccalaureate programmes. Its academic portfolio spans liberal arts, social science, business, mathematics, science, technology, advanced manufacturing, and allied health. South Texas College is the only community college in Texas to offer five baccalaureate degrees. The institution holds accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
A significant portion of the student body comprises first-generation college students (40%) and Pell grant recipients (50% of traditional students). The college operates dual-credit programmes in partnership with 70 high schools across the region, having served approximately 150,000 high school students since 2000 and saved families over $464 million in tuition costs. The institution is recognised as the nation's leading Hispanic-Serving Institution.
