The State of Ohio is the government of a Midwestern U.S. state, admitted to the Union as the 17th state on March 1st 1803 and the first admitted under the Northwest Ordinance. It operates three branches of government - executive, judicial and legislative - under Governor Mike DeWine, the 70th Governor of Ohio, who has served since 2019. Its workforce numbers in the tens of thousands across numerous state agencies, covering such fields as public administration, employment and workforce services, business licensing and regulation, and the administration of social benefits.
Ohio delivers government information and services to approximately 11.8 million residents through Ohio.gov, the official state website and central hub for citizen-facing services, and a set of related digital platforms. These include OhioMeansJobs, which provides job placement assistance to residents; Ohio Benefits, used to check benefits eligibility; and the Ohio Business Gateway, which handles business licensing. The state's technical work spans government digital services, web platform and online service delivery, eligibility and benefits determination systems, business licensing systems and job placement services platforms.
Ohio's government is based in the state of Ohio, United States, and its operations serve the wider Midwestern region. In 2026 CNBC named Ohio America's Top State for Business, one of a series of such recognitions cited in the state's record.
