In 1913, Sturdy Memorial Hospital opened as a 15-bed facility with a vision to provide exceptional healthcare close to home. Over the past 110 years, that vision has evolved into Sturdy Health - a thriving, independent, nonprofit health system that now serves Southeastern Massachusetts and neighboring Rhode Island. Today, Sturdy Health comprises a 142-bed acute care hospital, 25 primary and specialty care medical practices, and an urgent care center, all dedicated to one simple but powerful mission: improving the health and well-being of the communities it serves through kindness, compassion, and convenient access to high-quality care.
Sturdy Health's commitment to its communities runs deep. As a locally controlled, not-for-profit organization, Sturdy invests directly back into the health and wellness of the people it serves. The health system is currently implementing a multi-year master space plan that includes a $60 million, state-of-the-art medical office building opening in Fall 2025, and a $113 million modernization and expansion of the emergency department to 38,000 square feet with 54 patient exam rooms, a dedicated 12-bed behavioral health unit, and new helipad. This transformation ensures that Sturdy Health can continue providing exceptional care, exceptionally close to those who need it most.
