The Unified Government of Wyandotte County, established in 1997, is the consolidated city-county government serving the residents of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas. It provides a wide range of essential public services to a population of over 169,000 residents across an area of 155.7 square miles, within the greater Kansas City metropolitan area of more than two million people.
The organization's services include Public Safety through the Sheriff's Office, Judicial Administration via the Municipal Court, Parks and Recreation, Public Health, Motor Vehicle Services, Property Tax Administration, and the management of public records, some of which date back to the 1850s. It is led by an elected Board of Commissioners and Mayor.
