The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is Arkansas' only health sciences university and the state's largest public employer. Founded in 1879 and headquartered in Little Rock, UAMS operates as a statewide health system providing clinical care, medical education, and research through its main campus and nine regional campuses across Arkansas. The institution employs over 12,000 staff and collaborates with clinical affiliates Arkansas Children's Hospital and the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System.
