Founded in 1969, the Los Angeles LGBT Center is the world's largest provider of programs and services for LGBTQ+ people. The organization employs approximately 800 staff and serves over 45,000 individuals annually across the Los Angeles area. Its work spans multiple sectors, addressing healthcare, housing, legal needs, and social support for community members ranging from youth to seniors.
As a Federally Qualified Health Center, the organization delivers culturally competent, free or low-cost primary care, mental health services, sexual health resources, transgender healthcare, and HIV/STD treatment and prevention. It also operates affordable housing for seniors, emergency shelter and transitional living programs for youth experiencing homelessness, and provides legal assistance to the LGBTQ+ community.
Beyond direct services, the center runs programs for youth and seniors that include employment assistance and scholarships. It conducts research to advance LGBTQ+ healthcare and engages in advocacy for systemic change. The organization's mission-driven approach focuses on addressing systemic barriers and the social determinants of health affecting LGBTQ+ individuals.
