The Modoc Tribal Enterprises Authority is the economic development arm of the Modoc Nation, a federally recognized Native American tribe based in Oklahoma. The Authority oversees a portfolio of business ventures spanning federal contracting, environmental services, health services, housing programs, and wellness initiatives, with the stated goal of creating sustainable opportunities that serve both tribal members and the broader community.
The Modoc Nation's history is defined by forced displacement and institutional resilience. Originally inhabiting approximately 5,000 square miles along the California–Oregon border, the tribe was relocated to Indian Territory in 1873 following the Modoc War, with only 155 survivors making the journey. Federal recognition was terminated in 1954 and successfully restored in 1978. Chief Robert Burkybile, elected in 2022, currently leads the Nation.
The Authority's federal contracting work is conducted through the Federal Solutions Group, which positions the enterprise to compete for U.S. government contracts. Alongside this, the Authority operates or oversees environmental services, health services, housing programs, and wellness initiatives - each reflecting a broader strategy of economic self-sufficiency and community development rooted in the tribe's sovereign status.
For veterans and transitioning service members, the Authority's federal contracting and government-facing operations offer direct parallels to the structured, mission-driven environments familiar from military service. The organization's emphasis on discipline, resilience, and service to a defined community mirrors values common across the armed forces.
