North American Construction Group (NACG) is Canada's largest independent heavy equipment and mining contractor. Founded in 1953 by brothers Ivan and Bob Gouin with a single secondhand bulldozer, the company now operates one of the largest independently owned fleets of haul trucks, shovels and mining equipment in North America, with work spanning Canada, the United States and Australia.
Its services cover large-scale earthworks, mining operations and development, land reclamation, heavy civil and industrial construction, equipment maintenance and refurbishment, and OEM parts sourcing for heavy equipment and mining fleets. Historical projects include roads across Alberta and British Columbia, Gardiner Dam and sections of the Alaska Highway. Since 1973 the company has mined, developed and reclaimed land for energy and resource clients in Alberta's oil sands near Fort McMurray.
Field and shop roles are grounded in heavy equipment operations, mechanical maintenance and industrial construction. The company reports millions of hours worked without a lost-time incident in Alberta's oil sands and states an emphasis on maintaining that safety record. Work also includes Indigenous partnerships and a stated commitment to sustainability. Over 70 years of operations inform its approach to large-scale resource and infrastructure projects.
