Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is a critical access hospital and rural health clinic serving Pagosa Springs, Colorado, and the surrounding region. Its emergency and pre-hospital operations run around the clock: the emergency department operates 24/7, the hospital is designated a Level IV trauma centre, and PSMC acts as the sole 911 EMS ambulance provider for the region. Inpatient care is provided through an 11-bed facility.
Surgical services cover general and orthopedic procedures. Outpatient care combines primary care with specialty services including cardiology, cancer care, gastroenterology, neurology, interventional pain management, pulmonology and ear, nose and throat (ENT) services, and the primary care clinic offers walk-in visits five days a week. Behavioral health is integrated into the care model.
Diagnostic and support capabilities include clinical laboratory services, outpatient infusion therapy and telemedicine. Diagnostic imaging features a newly installed GE Optima CT scanner and 3D mammography technology.
PSMC states that it provides care to all residents and visitors regardless of ability to pay, and describes a collaborative culture among physicians, advanced practice providers, staff, its board of directors and volunteers. The PSMC Foundation, a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit, raises funds for services and medical equipment; it has contributed over $4 million in donations and grants towards facility expansions.
