Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is the liquid waste contractor at the U.S. Department of Energy's Savannah River Site in South Carolina, where it treats and disposes of radioactive liquid waste left over from Cold War-era weapons production. The work is among the largest nuclear cleanup operations in the world and is carried out under a $21 billion, ten-year Integrated Mission Completion Contract awarded by the Department of Energy's Office of Environmental Management. SRMC employs 1,000-5,000 professionals and is led through a partnership of BWXT with Amentum and Fluor.
The scope spans tank farm operations managing ageing waste tanks, the Defense Waste Processing Facility, and associated production and disposal facilities across the site. Technical domains include radioactive liquid waste stabilisation, vitrification and waste processing, nuclear materials management, decontamination and decommissioning, environmental remediation and nuclear facility operations.
Operations are run to a formal safety regime: the company completed more than 20m safe work hours in a single year. Beyond the site, SRMC commits 18% of cumulative task order value to small businesses as part of its regional economic development obligations. Its stated purpose is environmental and community risk reduction at the Savannah River Site and within the wider national environmental mission of the Department of Energy.
