Founded in 1948, it provides acute and specialty care across a 22-county region spanning North Florida and South Georgia, and it is Tallahassee's largest private employer, with a team of over 6,000 colleagues.
The system's 772-bed acute care hospital is the region's only Level II Trauma Center and its Primary Stroke Center. It also operates the region's only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and its only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, alongside a dedicated psychiatric hospital and multiple specialty care centers. Clinical scope covers emergency and trauma care, heart and vascular care, oncology, orthopedics, surgery, behavioral health, and neonatal and pediatric critical care, supported by more than 50 affiliated physician practices.
TMH performs advanced procedures including robotic, minimally invasive surgery, having carried out the region's first robotic, minimally invasive heart bypass. The system runs six physician residency programs for graduate medical education. It was named among the top 50 cardiovascular hospitals in the nation in 2026 and has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the best regional hospitals in Florida.
