Elmcor is a non-profit, multi-service community organization based in Queens, New York. It was founded in 1965 by a coalition of local community members and activists, including members of the Black Panther Party. The organization operates under the guiding mantra "People for the People" and focuses on fostering positive life changes and community empowerment.
The organization's service areas are broad, spanning behavioral health, youth programs, housing, services for older adults, economic development, and recreation. Its behavioral health services include a 51-bed residential treatment facility. Youth programming features the first and only Youth Recovery Club House in Queens. Elmcor also operates the 30-unit Helen M. Marshall Manor for housing services, a supermarket-style food pantry for economic development, and recreational programming at the Louis Armstrong Recreational Center.
