Selfhelp Community Services is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1936, providing affordable housing, home care, and community-based services to aging adults in the New York metropolitan area. The organization has a specialized focus on caring for Holocaust survivors, having served more than 5,000 elderly survivors to date. Each year, it assists more than 25,000 aging adults across its programs.
The organization operates the Selfhelp Active Services for Aging Model (SHASAM), which integrates health, wellness, and social services into affordable housing for over 2,000 New Yorkers across 19 buildings. It also runs a Virtual Senior Center, designed to help homebound and socially isolated older adults maintain connections to their communities.
