Stored Energy Systems (SENS) designs and manufactures critical power infrastructure, including engineered DC power systems, industrial battery chargers and engine-starting solutions intended to keep mission-critical facilities running without interruption. Founded in 1971, the company works in DC power systems, power conversion, energy storage technologies and battery monitoring, and it supplies customers in North America and worldwide. Its equipment is deployed across data centres, hospitals, utilities, telecommunications and energy infrastructure - environments in which downtime is not an option.
The product line spans several named systems. SuperTorque engine starting systems are built to maximise uptime and reduce operational risk; the critical starting components in that family are deployed in more than 75% of North American critical power gensets larger than 500kW. PowerCab and MicroCab are DC power systems, MicroGenius and EnerGenius are battery chargers, and SC4 is a battery monitoring system. SENS integrated systems are installed in more than 80% of US hyperscale and colocation data centres.
Manufacturing is carried out in-house at two facilities, in Longmont, Colorado - also the headquarters - and in Hatfield, Pennsylvania. The company describes its engineering approach as built around worst-case design principles, so that components perform reliably under extreme stress, and retains direct control over production quality through its own manufacturing. Work centres on power conversion and energy storage technologies, with continued development in both fields.
