Suffolk University is a private, coeducational, nonsectarian university in downtown Boston, founded in 1906. It offers undergraduate, graduate, and law programs organised around real-world experience, and serves students through three academic units: the College of Arts & Sciences, the Sawyer Business School, and Suffolk University Law School, which awards the JD alongside graduate law degrees.
The university's programmes are built to accommodate students beyond the traditional full-time track. Small classes support close faculty-student relationships, and scheduling includes part-time and evening options as well as online classes and certificates for working professionals. Internships, study abroad, and other forms of experiential learning are emphasised across the curriculum, with downtown Boston serving as an extension of the classroom.
Campus life is supported by research centres, libraries, arts programming, student organisations, and athletics. The institution describes its mission as focused on access, opportunity, and real-world experience.
