WellStone is a nonprofit mental healthcare provider serving North Alabama. Founded in 1969, the organisation delivers comprehensive, evidence-based mental health and substance use services to individuals and families across all stages of life, including children, adolescents, adults and senior adults. Its services span crisis care, therapy, psychiatry, addiction recovery and community-based programmes. It serves up to 14,000 clients annually.
At the centre of its operations is WellStone Emergency Services (WES), a crisis centre running 24 hours a day, seven days a week. WES provides onsite crisis care for people facing mental health or substance use emergencies, and fields mobile crisis teams alongside its emergency care. The centre operates on a policy of turning away no one in need of help. Core practice areas include behavioural health, crisis intervention, psychiatry, addiction recovery and mobile crisis response.
WellStone is a 501(c)(3) organisation providing care regardless of ability to pay, with a discounted sliding fee schedule based on family size and income. It is supported by community donations and partnerships. The organisation works across North Alabama, with presence in Huntsville, Madison and Cullman, Alabama.
