Channing House is a not-for-profit Life Plan Community in downtown Palo Alto, California. Established in 1960 and welcoming its first residents in 1964, the charitable corporation is organised under California nonprofit law and has served older adults for more than six decades. It employs approximately 200 staff members and is home to 265 residents.
The community provides a full continuum of senior care on a single campus: independent living residences, assisted living, and skilled nursing services. Assisted living was added in the Tower in 2021 as part of a service expansion. A newer residential option, the Arris Residences, offers contemporary two-bedroom homes of 1,054 to 1,471 square feet.
Operations span residential care and hospitality functions, including restaurant-style dining in the main dining room, comprehensive wellness programmes, and a calendar of resident-led events and activities. Work is conducted within a person-centered care model that emphasises respect and dignity for residents and colleagues alike.
The organisation describes its setting as a sustainable and innovative environment intended to support active, engaged and healthy living. Its stated positions sit within the senior living, continuing care, healthcare, skilled nursing and assisted living sectors. Further detail is available at channinghouse.org.
