Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center is a nonprofit federally qualified health center (FQHC) serving individuals and families across Kansas City, Missouri. Founded in 1968 by Dr. Samuel U. Rodgers, it was Missouri's first federally recognized community health center and the fourth of its kind in the United States at the time of its founding. In 2025, 19,925 individuals received care through the organization, which was ranked by HRSA in the top 20% of federally qualified health centers nationwide in 2024. The center is led by CEO Bob Theis.
The organization delivers coordinated, whole-person healthcare through a broad service portfolio: primary and medical care, dental services, behavioral health, pediatrics, women's health (including mammogram screening, provided to approximately 1,632 patients in 2025), men's health, and on-site pharmacy services. Supporting clinical capabilities include telehealth, diagnostic imaging, and laboratory services. Community-facing programs include the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition program and assistance with health-insurance enrollment.
Access is a central feature of the operating model. The center serves patients regardless of their ability to pay, accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance, and applies a sliding-scale financial assistance program in which costs are determined by income and family size. Multilingual services and community health workers support a diverse patient population. Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center also invests in clinical training through its Nurse Practitioner Residency Program - the first launched by an FQHC.
