The New England Center and Home for Veterans is a nonprofit founded in 1989 that provides housing, education, employment assistance, behavioral health services, case management and financial assistance to Veterans experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Its stated aim is to move those it serves toward economic self-sufficiency and dignified independent living. The organisation describes itself as one of the nation's largest private providers of human services to Veterans facing significant challenges, and has operated for more than 35 years.
Its services span several programmes. A 24/7 transitional residential programme offers 20 to 25 beds for Veterans who may not yet be ready to engage in behavioural health treatment. Residential and supportive housing programmes serve Veterans experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Behavioural health services address mental health and substance-use disorders, working through harm reduction, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care and person-centred support. Education and employment assistance, together with case management and financial assistance, form the remaining strands of the offer.
The work is concentrated in Massachusetts, including Boston and the Merrimack Valley, across the fields of Veterans services, human services, homelessness services, behavioural health and supportive housing. The organisation is mission-driven, with an emphasis on the dignity and independent living of those it serves and on person-centred, trauma-informed practice.
